Teaching rookies a lesson... pic.twitter.com/RGRutiPMiL— Evan Mathis (@EvanMathis69) June 13, 2014
Philadelphia Eagles guard Evan Mathis tweeted this photo out Thursday night. It looks like a restaurant receipt totaling over $64,000. The caption, "Teaching rookies a lesson..." led many to believe it was an actual bill from a "rookie dinner."
Rookie dinners typically involve veteran players forcing rookies to take out teammates to dinner. The rookies are usually left with substantial bills.
But, not this time.
Mathis' tweet received over 5,400 retweets and ended up on numerous sports blogs.
But, it's fake.
Mathis tweeted a new picture that showed that the image was actually taken in a kitchen. Also, ESPN reporter Adam Schefter cracked a code.
Last night was fun. Thanks for the great reactions. pic.twitter.com/WMNSXjM8WH— Evan Mathis (@EvanMathis69) June 13, 2014
