Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling was banned from the NBA for life on Tuesday afternoon.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver made the decision after Sterling's comments to his girlfriend regarding black people.
The NBA also has fined Sterling $2.5 million, which is the maximum allowed under the NBA Constitution. The money will go to organizations dedicated to anti-discrimination.
It should be noted that the MLB banned New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner in 1990. That ban was lifted in 1993.
Silver told reporters that the process to force Sterling to sell the team begins immediately.
