Stone Temple Pilots officially fired singer Scott Weiland. The band released a single sentence press release that read, "Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland."
The California rock band enjoyed success in the 1990s with a string of platinum albums and hit songs. They broke up in 2003 and reunited in 2008.
During the band's hiatus, Weiland joined former members of Guns N' Roses to form Velvet Revolver. Months ago, guitarist Slash said that Weiland had been fired from the band.
Up until Tuesday, Weiland denied that he was fired. He told Rolling Stone, "Slash doesn't know anything about STP. We're talking right now about when we want to tour next."
Weiland is planning a solo tour in March.
