There are conflicting reports surrounding the cancellation of Lady Gaga's Born This Way Ball tour. Gaga said the was dealing with an injury and has been photographed in a wheelchair since the announcement, but some believe that she is not as hurt as she appears.
Examiner.com cites two anonymous sources who claim that the tour's promoter, Live Nation, called for the tour's cancellation. According to the sources, it was not necessarily poor ticket sales. But, ticket sales, "weren't good enough to justify the huge production cost." The other source claims that Gaga lost a lot of money in South America and couldn't make it up in North America.
But, Billboard estimates that the cancellation will cost Lady Gaga and Live Nation a substantial amount of money. A total of 22 shows were cancelled and Billboard estimates that means about 200,000 tickets worth $25 million would have to be refunded.
Lady Gaga's Born This Way Ball tour had grossed $168.2 million and the final leg would've have likely put the tour over the $200 million mark.
