A new moon that was discovered orbiting Pluto will be named Styx.
Technically, the moon will be named after the mythological river and not the band. But, the band is taking credit. Tommy Shaw tells Ultimate Classic Rock, "“Styx is proud to accept this new heavenly chart position as we add orbiting Pluto to our ever expanding touring map. As always we have our fans to thank for it and I predict a new Styx T-Shirt in the making!”
The "Styx" name was a part of a public vote last year. It actually lost to "Vulcan" which was a popular choice among Star Trek fans.
The International Astronomical Union explains that Vulcan, "Has already been used in astronomy, and because the Roman god is not closely associated with Pluto, this proposal was rejected."
